Since I am sure there are many brand new ATVers trying to figure out what to buy I thought I would start a poll to help them out. Please vote above to what you prefer and list your reasons below on why you prefer your sport/utilty.
Thanks!

I prefer Sport Quads for MANY reasons! My pros are...... Better Suspension which means better handling WHEELIES Lighter which means you can stand it straight up and down to wash the under side of it Lighter so you can really throw it around on the trails Smaller than some "Big Boy Utes" which means can go a little bit faster through the woods Cons When you are stuck, you are stuck there is no Winch or 4wd (well Poorkawi has a winch) to get yourself out. This is why I don't hate the Utilities and I LOVE to have them with me! No racks to haul you gear (well you can buy some, but you will be made fun of if you have a sport quad with a rack) Not as much comfort as a Utility No Snowplow (Again Poorkawi does, but he is different! lol) or other attachments for Utilities (they really have ALOT of different attachments for them) If I had it my way I would have BOTH!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so jealous of Cadman!!!!!!!

I really like the versatility of my utility, I have used it around the house to pull out old barbed wire fence and fence posts, pull a trailer to clean up the property of leaves and fallen limbs, attach my sprayer to spray for weeds and then when the chores are done I can also take it out to play. As most of you know, however, I am also looking for a good sporty strictly for the joy of riding, something with a little more give in the suspension to just play around on. In my opinion, however, if you are looking for dual purpose versatility then the utility is the way to go.

If I had to pick just one it would have to be the utility and this is why. The utility can do just about any thing and every thing a rider wants to do. You can use it for work and play and even racing! I myself have both but I just got the sporty last fall and I have only been on her a few times and I would like to get it out on the trails when its dry to see how she handles. So far its been wet when I have had her out. Power and speed wise a sporty will be all of that, so you should be some what of a seasoned rider be for jumping on something with a lot of power. I have a Honda rancher with a 350 power plant and it can stay up with some of the sporty on the trails but the handling is not as good . So it come down to riding styles I would have to say. But once again if I could only have one it would be a utility hands down for it versatility.

I definitly like the utility. this weekend we went riding and both trucks got stuck down the 200 yard drive because the base was so muddy, so i hooked up the brute to the double axle tailer in 8 inch deep mud and horsed it right through in low with no overheating. and when i got done, my buddy and lined up my brute and his grizzly and i smoked him doing 65 mph and stil having more to go. the brute is a true sport utility, i can throw it around on the trails, smoke my fair share of sport bikes, and hit the mud like nobodys business.

utility is a word that you save for your friends. I feel like playing, go 2 wheels or (3) if I had 4wd, I don't think I could afford the crane to pull me out, I'd be in waaaaay to deep!

I like my sportie because it's much lighter, requires less effort to ride and able to go fast in the tightest of places. I don't like getting stuck or being thrown around at higher speeds. When I had the Sportsman 600, I loved it too though. It was a bull with tons of power and rode like a Cadillac. Sadly, it was also a chore to handle in timber trails, was impossible to manhandle during high speeds and was scary to ride on off-camber stuff. If I had to own only one type from now on, it would probably be a Polaris Scrambler 500 or Yamaha Wolverine 450. They are set up as sporties, lighter than utes and have 4WD on demand. That would fulfill all my likes about each type of ATV and perform like both of them!! *Techman, I think Mojo was referring to the sporties ability to absorb jumps/whoops, stick around corners and other 'go-fast' suspension perks. IRS does allow for higher ground clearances, and better uneven traction, but isn't the best at high speed stunts/cornering. (I believe a ute's weight plays into that more than anything as a sportie with IRS actually does some things better) .......and I agree about utes doing wheelies!!! Heck, utes can do forward and reverse wheelies!!

i love both. you cant just say Utility or Sport.... different quads made for different riding. Sport riders dont need rack for gear, therefore no racks. Utility riders arent neccessarily wanting to hit a double on a motocross track, so lack of suspension. I could go on all day. buy a quad based off of what YOU WANT TO DO, not based off what the quad can do... id definilty ride a ute! not for mudding or hunting.... check out that new Can-Am Renegade 800X. thats a quad!!!

i have to agree with speed on this the sporty vs. ute depends on the rider i dont need a big bore bad muddinmachine because as much as ilke to get muddy i dont need to swim to do it. and dont need a sporty because if i get more than a foot off the ground i get nervous anyway. and the other side of this is not all utes are 4X4 and not all sporty are for racing so pick a quad that fits you and your riding style, comfort level and needs

I still agree with most posters on this subject. I think there is a purpose for both styles of machines and it just depends on how you wish to use them. Jonesz, I'm with you as far as product brand goes. I'm definitely partial to Honda's, but I am also aware of other great manufacturers out there.

I also own both. If I had to pick just one it would be my UTE. I love riding my sporty but I have now become way more custom to being able to do just about everything instead of only half of them. I am also not afraid to take my UTE on the MX track but I highly doubt that I'll be clearing any doubles any time soon on a 700 lb rig. As far as wheelies go. I can pull them all day long and I don't even have to ty and shift gears to keep it going. Gotta love it.
I also hate getting stuck I think it makes me look foolish. Sporties are definitly not for deep snow or mud.
