Wisdom and history tell me to keep my mouth shut when it comes to religion and politics, but since this is the debate section, I guess I'll play!
I know it looks like all Pres. Obama is doing is spending, spending and spending some more, however, these spending spree's are actually putting money back into our economy.
The bank bail-out had to happen to keep our economy from crashing and some of these institutions have already paid back the U.S. loans.
The auto maker's bail-out needed to happen not only to keep America in the auto industry, but also to keep thousands of worker's out of the unemployment line and hence contributing to the economy instead of draining it.
The cash for clunkers program is actually a nicely thought out idea, if you think about it. This program pulls off the streets a gas guzzling, air polluting vehicle that is sold for scrap and is replaced with a more environmentally friendly model.
This encourages people to spend their dollar at a local dealership (win for the dealer). The dealer orders more vehicles from the manufacturer (win for the manufacturer), which in turn, pays more taxes to the government (win for America).
Yes, I voted for Obama and I am still proud to say so. I am all for giving him the time to turn this country around from the prior eight years of mis-management. This is no small feat, as we all know, but the economy is already starting to see signs of improvement.
Negativity will always breed more negativity. A positive, can-do attitude along with intelligence and a willingness to work together is what it will take to get America back on top.

cash for clunkers program
I don't drive an American car but I would like to trade in my old car for a newer, more fuel efficient one. Is this program only for American cars?
No. You may trade in or buy a domestic or a foreign vehicle.

Some things to remember:
The last administration inherited a surpluss and turned it into the largest deficit in our history.
Lack of oversight allowed the banks and oil speculators to drive the economy to the brink of a depression.
The mortgage/housing bubble was evident as early as mid 2007, but nothing was done. The financial crisis would have been significantly less severe if addressed 2 years ago.
The severity of the developing crisis was not revealed to the public because of the election. Only when this strategy was clearly about to implode the financial system did the last administration level with the public and run to Congress for the bailout.
Even after the bailout, the banks continued to freeze credit to the extent that the auto industry, already hurt by gas prices, saw sales declines of over 40%. Fixed costs and even operational costs can't be reduced fast enough to overcome this.
It will take more than 100 days to correct the damage of the last 8 years.
