Made the 4 1/2 hour trip down to the Badlands last weekend. Easy drive from the QC. Get on I-74 and away you go. The camping left a bit to be desired. There are primitive sites, electric, and electric/water/sewer sites. The campground is basically an open field, no tree cover at all. The shower/sh!tter house is a bit rough, but ample. I'm glad I had my toy hauler.
The riding area is pretty cool. There really is a little of everything. Lots of trails, mud, sand, dunes, etc. It was a cool place to ride. I think it is around 800 acres. It rained hard the day we got there so there was a ton of water. It kept the dust down, but made some of the trails really deep. Lots of people there, too. They allow quads, buggies, jeeps/trucks, and bikes. The main trail is wide and you can get up to speed. Overall, I liked it and would go back. We had an electric site, but would upgrade to the electric/water/sewer site next time. I would put this place in my top three for camping/riding, the other two being St. Joes and Turkey Bay. Camping-wise, it don't hold a candle to St. Joe's, but I'd say the riding is just as good. I think Turkey Bay is the best place to ride of the three.
Check it out if you have the chance.
